“I began working for the college 8 years ago. When I was young, I wanted my future career to be in law enforcement. I was fortunate to eventually grow up, receive an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, and then work for the Baltimore Police Department. When I retired from the police department in 2006, I never imagined that I would become a college professor. I was able to make the transition from law enforcement to education because I obtained my Master’s degree in English before I retired from the police department, and because I developed significant interpersonal, communication, decision making, and leadership skills as a police officer. As a college professor, my biggest accomplishment and motivation for continuing to give students the best of what I can offer and teach them is, watching students develop the confidence and vision of seeing their future lives as successful and thriving human beings. Many of my students come from environments in which it is very difficult to see their lives beyond the day to day challenges that weigh them down in pessimism, fear, and self-doubt. As a result of my students, my life changed when I became an educator because I have a tremendous amount of joy and happiness every day that I come to work. My joy comes from knowing that I have the distinct pleasure and opportunity to give my students hope and enthusiasm for learning, and hope and enthusiasm for the future. I teach General Education courses. At BCCC, we will meet you where you are and take you as far as you want to go. We will guide, cheer, and hold on to you all of the way and until you grow the wings that you need to soar even higher to where you aspire
to be!”
